Nexus 10 2 Release Date Canceled - Redundancy? Nexus ‘Volantis’ Set to Replace Nexus 8, 10
Google Nexus 10 2 is perhaps one of the most anticipated gadgets this year, thanks to the popularity of its predecessor. Unfortunately, the rumored second-generation phablet did not make it through the Google I/O Conference 2014, which sparked curiosity that the device might have been cancelled. No official statements were released by the Mountain View-based tech giant despite the device nearing its rumored release date.
If Nexus 10 2 is really on its way, fans are expecting a tight competitor for iPad Mini Air. According to previous reports from TechRadar, Google's upcoming flagship device measures 10.1 inches, a common standard for today's Android tablets.
It will be running on Android 5 together with a full HF display to accommodate high-powered games and multitasking.
Despite the speculation that Google has cancelled its upcoming device, a reliable web leak from @evleaks revealed a new codename, Flounder.
The document is believed to be containing information about an alleged HTC-manufactured Nexus 9. Unlike Nexus 10 2, rumor has it that Nexus 9 will replace previous tablets with an 8.9-inch display.
Volantis, the device's more common name, also features 2048 x 1440 pixel resolution at 221 dpi, 2 GB RAM, and NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor.
As for the retail price, Android Police reported Nexus Volantis available on 16 GB version at $399 while the 32 GB comes with a $499 price tag. An LTE device will also be released on the market at $600.
Considering the specs, critics are looking forward to the fact that Google's flagship brand will compete head to head with Apple's iPad series.
