New York Yankees News: Derek Jeter Looks To Make Lasting Impression In Final Appearance at 2014 MLB All Star Game

NY Yankees star athlete Derek Jeter is set to play in the final All-Star game of his legendary career this Tuesday at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"It feels good," said Jeter, according to the New York Daily News, "All-Star Games are fun. I'm happy I get the opportunity to come back here. It'll be special for me. It'll be the last one for me, so I'm glad I have the opportunity to go."

The longtime Yankee captain was asked how the Red Sox skipper John Farrell and the rest of the American League All-Star team will honor him after the game, "I don't go into it with any expectations," said the 14-time MLB All-Star, "I'm just going to try to enjoy myself and have fun with whoever's here."

Yankee manager Joe Girardi is thrilled that his former teammate will start his final All-Star game.

"I think it'll be great," said Girardi, "I think it's great for the fans, I think it's great for baseball and I'm sure they have something special planned."

Longtime Fox announcer Joe Buck is looking forward to calling Jeter's final appearance at the game that will decide whether the National League or the American League will win home field advantage at this year's World Series. He believes Jeter will get a similar reception by everyone in attendance, similar to (Jeter's former teammate) Mariano Rivera's farewell tour last year.

"That moment when Rivera went out and took the field on his own, that was done by the other players,'' said Buck, according to the Boston Globe, "That was not done by Major League Baseball as far as I know. That truly wasn't done by Fox. We can kind of fill in and around what actually happens, but we're there to report on it and cover it, not choreograph it. So whatever the guys think would be fitting for Jeter would be much more fitting than what we come up with."

Jeter became the first player in MLB history to ever win the All-Star Game MVP and World Series MVP Awards in the same season, when his team defeated their crosstown rival the New York Mets in the 2000 World Series in five games.

Jeter currently has five World Series rings (1996, 1998-2000, 2009) and he's hoping to add one more championship, before his 19-year-career comes to an end.

"We have so many games left," said Jeter, according to NY Daily News, "I've appreciated every opportunity I've gotten to go to the cities for the last time, but in my mind, I just try to block it out and take this season like it's any other season."

The 2014 MLB All-Star Game airs Tuesday July 15 at 8 pm EST on the Fox network.
