The Rangers face Canadiens in the Great White North, after defeating Montreal 3-2 on Sunday night. In Game 4, Rangers All-Star goalie Henrik Lundqvist had 27 saves in the victory, which made him tie former Stanley Cup champion goalie Mike Richter with 41 postseason wins in franchise history. Carl Hagelin, Derick Brassard, and Martin St Louis each scored a goal to lead the Blueshirts to the victory.
New York is looking to win their fifth championship in franchise history but they must to defeat Montreal one more time in order to clinch the Eastern Conference title and advance to the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals.
"It's a big difference up 3-1 instead of 2-2 going back to Montreal,'' said St. Louis to reporters after scoring the game winning goal on May 25. "We were obviously disappointed with the result last game. We thought we played a good game. That's just hockey. Tonight we are on a good end, and it's a big plus."
Meanwhile, the Canadiens are looking to avoid being eliminated from the postseason versus the Rangers when the two teams clash again in the third round of the playoffs.
In Game 4, Francis Bouillon and P.K. Subban each scored a goal in a losing effort for Montreal.
The Canadiens must win consecutive games in a row in order to keep their championship aspirations alive this year.
"We had the opportunity on the power play but we didn't take advantage of it," said Montreal head coach Michel Therrien to reporters after the game. "Yes, we scored a goal. It was a tying goal, but we gave up one, and that was the story of the game. I thought our power play had to be better."
