New York Knicks Roster Rumors, News: Carmelo Anthony Does Not Expect to Win Championship After Kevin Love Trade (Video)
New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony explains why he does not believe his squad will win the NBA title in the upcoming 2014-2015 campaign.
"I do not expect to win a championship this year. That's something that takes time and everything has to be in sync, from management to players. We have much work to do, but something that drives me. I know we can start creating the foundation of what we do. It's the start of a good process," said Anthony to Primera Hora.
The 30-year-old NBA athlete is very excited to return to his hometown team after signing a 5-year-old $122 million contract with the Knicks on July 13, 2014.
"This is a new beginning for me in my life. Although I'm back with the same team after my contract extension, for me it's a new opportunity for the team and for the city," said Anthony.
Despite a legendary career with the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks, 'Melo' has never won a NBA championship, entering his 12th season in the league.
"Next year we will have enough money to spend within the salary cap. But this year it is important to take the necessary steps towards those who will in the next year. I want to concentrate on building what we want from this year," said Anthony.
Anthony has faith that Knicks President Phil Jackson will pursue one of these NBA stars Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kenneth Faried via trade or through free agency once Amar'e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani's contract are no longer part of the Knicks payroll next year.
"I am a New York Knick at heart," he said in the statement after resigning with New York last month, "I am looking forward to continue my career in Orange & Blue and to work with Phil Jackson, a champion who builds championship teams. Madison Square Garden is the mecca of basketball and I am surrounded by the greatest fans in the world."
In other NBA news, Anthony's friend Lebron James is awaiting the NBA to officially approve the trade after the Cleveland Cavaliers agreed to trade rookie Anthony Wiggins in a package that includes Anthony Bennett to the Minnesota Timberwolves for superstar Kevin Love last week.
However, there are reports that the NBA may veto the trade to prevent another 'Big 3 scenario' in Cleveland.
The verdict is expected to be revealed on August 23, because league guidelines that reveal that a drafted player cannot be traded until he (Wiggins) spends at least 30 days on the squad.
