New York Giants' David Wilson Thanks God Despite Suffering Career Ending Injury At the Age of 23 [VIDEO & PHOTO]
New York Giants running back David Wilson revealed he is very grateful to God despite recently retiring from football after a career ending neck injury at the shocking young age of 23.
"I'm thankful that I can literally walk away from the game and that I am healthy and capable of doing the same things I have done all my life, except play football," said Wilson via a NY Giants press release, "I always try to find the positive in everything."
Wilson was best known for performing an impressive back-flip in the end zone each time he scored a touchdown for the New York football squad, led by two-time Super Bowl Champion quarterback Eli Manning.
"This morning (Monday) when I saw Dr. Cammisa and Dr. Warren, I didn't hear what I wanted to hear, but I expected that what they told me could be a possibility," said Wilson, "I had played out both scenarios in my mind. I prayed this morning before I went to see them that they would tell me what God would tell me. He put His answer in them to relay to me."
Wilson held a press conference on August 6 to reluctantly announce his retirement after playing only two years in the NFL.
"And every time I watch a Giants game or a football game and see people play that I actually had a chance to meet, I want to see them try to be great. Because it can be taken away," said the former Virginia Tech Hokies college football player in his retirement speech. "So when they go on the field I want to see them, every Sunday or Thursday or Monday, I want to see them guys be great, see them push themselves. That's where my joy will come from."
Previously, Wilson went on social media to express his thoughts on walking away from the game he loves the most, football.
"At age 8 I told my #Dad I wanted to play football in THE NFL at this point in my life I have done that. Even Blessed to be drafted in the 1st round. Broke and set RECORDS, scored Touchdowns, and all that follows. It's a great feeling to live a out dream," wrote Wilson on Instagram four days ago.
"Unfortunately that has been paused but I am blessed that I am able to walk away from this game healthy and still able to be me with no restrictions pain or struggle and So all I ask is please don't be sorry or pity ME that's just one chapter life goes on and I'm glad I can live it. Once a Giant always a #Giant #pocketrocket."
