New TLC Album News: Crowdfunded - Kickstarter Final Album Well Underway
Last week, one of the most successful female hip-hop and R&B group's of all time, TLC, announced plans of releasing their final album. To realize the production of their fifth album, the remaining members of the group have asked fans to pledge money on the popular crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.
Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chili" Thomas have seen their campaign get off to a blazing start, already collecting $110,000 of its $150,000 target, according to CrowdSourcing.
Last Monday, the duo posted a video on Kickstarter saying, "We want to do one last album, and we want to do it with you."
According to the Kickstarter page, the money will "go towards a writing session in the studio with a producer and engineer," and "The money beyond that will go to booking music producers, writing sessions, mixing sessions, recording sessions, and so much more."
TLC's fifth and final album will be their first since 2002's 3D. 3D was released following the tragic death of TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez, who passed away in a car accident in the Honduras.
"We feel that this final album will be the best way to keep Lisa's memory alive. We can never replace Lisa, and we are constantly thinking of ways to incorporate her into this album," said a Kickstarter update by T-Boz and Chilli.
"Lisa was our sister and we know she would have loved us doing something so out of the box like this. That's what TLC has always been about."
TLC made good profits off their first two albums, but infamously declared for bankruptcy in 1995.
The four people that have, so far, contributed more than $1,000 to the upcoming album will get a chance to go to the movies with either remaining TLC member. A fan that pledged $7,500 was rewarded with a photo shoot with the duo, as reported by The Telegraph.
