New Razer & Google Game Console News: Micro System Set-Top Box For Movies, TV, and Videogames

If a recent report by Gizmodo is accurate, then Razer is collaborating with Google to develop a novel micro console that specifically targets gamers. According to the report, the new device will serve as a set-top box for television shows as well as movies, in addition to its videogame playing capabilities.

While Razer has yet to reveal many details regarding the upcoming micro console, it has issued a press release that offers some information about the device.

The press release quotes Razer co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan saying, "This is a console of the future. Built on Google's incredible Android TV platform, the Razer micro-console incorporates not only hardcore and casual gaming, but music, movies and other entertainment and social applications, all on an affordable system."

However, Razer has not offered any further information such as the specific release date, specs and price of the upcoming micro console, but a report by Engadget says that the device will be different from the Fire TV unit of Amazon. The website states that the difference between the Razer device and Fire TV involves hard-core gaming capabilities.

The press release states, "Razer's experience in designing high-performance gaming systems, controllers, keyboards and mice will contribute beneficially to the device development."

Adding, "Gaming-related software is also an area Razer knows well. With 9 million active users registered on its platform, the company offers a range of applications for communication, performance optimization, and device personalization."

According to Forbes, Razer has a solid reputation in the gaming industry. A report by Dave Thier via Forbes reads, "Razer has become quite good at cramming high-end graphics capability into a small form factor, so it will be interesting to see the specs on this new machine when they're announced."

In addition to launching the impressive Razer Blade, an ultra thin gaming laptop having its most recent version packing 262 pixels per inch in its 14-inch Quad HD+ 3200x1800 screen, IGZO and IPS touchscreen display panel, the company has also released the Razer Junglecat Mobile Game Controller for the iPhone.
