New Oppo U3 Smartphone Specs, Features, Price: Device Officially Launches in China

The Oppo U3 handset was officially launched in China last week, following information that was leaked days prior, about the phone's specs, features, and price.

A few days before the official launch, a tipster who goes by the username leaksfly released details on Twitter about the Oppo U3 smartphone.

According to the tweet, the Oppo U3 sports a 5.9-inch 1080pixel display, an MT6752 64-bit processor with 2GB RAM and 12GB of internal storage. It comes with 13 megapixel and 3 megapixel cameras and a VOOC rapid charger.  It's 8mm thick and weighs 180 grams and was priced at ¥2798 (around $451).

Even before the specs were leaked, the Oppo U3 already claimed to be the thinnest smartphone in the market that comes with a camera that has a 4x optical zoom, so some were wondering why the said feature was not mentioned at all in the tip.

Also, a TENAA listing already confirmed the upcoming release of the handset several days before the leak. Because of TENAA, which is China's equivalent of the FCC, many already expected the phone's launch in China by Jan. 14.

The Oppo U3 has been making headlines since November of last year and was expected to make waves in the market before Xiaomi even announced its next flagship phone.

Even before the leak came out, there has been other information released on the specs of the Oppo U3, such as the 4K video capturing, LED flash for the cameras, LTE connectivity, embedded AK4961 audio chip and expandable storage.

As of this writing, there is limited information on the status of the sales of the Oppo U3 in China or other markets. However, it's a bit costlier than the likes of the OnePlus One, Honor 6 Plus, Meizu MX4 and Xiaomi Mi4.

The Oppo units are known for their sometimes exaggerated price tag, but if the leaked price is true, the handset may find it difficult to compete with other more affordable units despite its good specs.
