New Google Smartphone Rumors: Two Nexus 7 Models to Launch in 2015?

So far, Google has partnered with several tech manufacturers, including Samsung, HTC, LG, Asus and Motorola, to build its Nexus devices. Now, a report by Tech Radar claims that in the future Google will be collaborating will lesser known companies to develop the upcoming Nexus device.

Quoting the tech website, Latin Post says that the Nexus 6, the latest Nexus device, was built by Motorola. This year, Google plans to launch two Nexus devices and, if the Chinese networking site Weibo is to be believed, one of these may be created by a Chinese tech company.

The report in Weibo claims that a source disclosed that Google plans to launch two Nexus 7 models this year and one of these - the purported Nexus 7 will be a premium model and will possibly be manufactured by LG. The second Nexus is expected to be a low end device that will be produced by an unidentified Chinese company.

According to the source, the unknown Chinese manufacturer may possibly use its own processor in the Nexus 7 or even opt to use a Qualcomm chip. In case the manufacturer uses its own chip, it is likely that Huawei, which also manufactures processors, will produce the low-end Nexus 7.

If the manufacturer uses its own processor, Huawei makes sense as the company that would create the low end Nexus 7. In fact, Huawei manufactures the Kisilcom Kirin chipset and it is used for powering many of its own handsets. Now, this processor may also be used to power one of the upcoming Nexus 7 devices. According to Tech Radar, no other Chinese manufacturer produces its own processor.

However, Google has yet to make an official announcement regarding its plans to release Nexus 7, but if Weibo is to be believed, tech enthusiasts may expect a new Nexus 7 device before the end of the year.

Since the Nexus 6 was released in October 2014, it is possible that Google may release the next Nexus might in fall this year.

Meanwhile, it is not certain what the upcoming device will be called, because a Nexus 7 device already exists on the market. In this case Google may possibly want to come up with a new name for its next Nexus device.
