New Acer Windows Phone Release Date Rumors: Taiwanese Tech Firm to Launch Device in 2015?

If a recent report is true, Acer is all set to return to the smartphone market in early 2015 with a range of new Windows Phones. The Taiwanese multinational hardware and electronics corporation launched it last Windows Phone, called the W4, almost three years back.

According to a recent report by Neowin said that although Acer released the W4 when Windows 7.5 was prevalent, the company moved away from the platform prior to the release of Apple's latest mobile operating system - Windows Phone 8. The company, however, presented a slide at an event in June 2013 suggesting that it planned to release a new handset in 2014 with the aim of offering a "unique experience across Win8 and WP8," but that did not materialize.

Soon after the event, an executive from Acer remarked that Windows Phone is "a great OS", but was quick to add that "no-one knows about it."

Early this year, another Acer executive said that the company did not want to "take the risk" on a Windows Phone until there was an improvement in the software system's market share as well as its app situation improved.

The website reports that Acer has never supported the OS wholeheartedly or been particularly consistent. Keeping this aspect in view, Gizbot has recently asserted that now Acer will is not only be coming back to the Windows Phone platform, but it will utilize this platform on an extraordinary scale.

The report by Neowin further says that that Acer is considering introducing a new range of smartphones based on Windows Phone smartphones in 2015. Although Gizbot does not provide any detail regarding the purported smartphones, it claims that it has received information that Acer may be launching its new Windows Phone lineup during the first half of 2015.
