Netflix Outshines HBO at Golden Globes Nominations
Netflix recently ended HBO's awards domino for television shows at Golden Globes, according to recent reports.
Netflix is now shifting its gears toward areas and freedoms that were previously dominated by lead cable networks like HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and Starz, among others, as per Entertainment Weekly. The streaming media company has demonstrated its power to show raw and minimally edited content on television that did not violate FCC's rules.
With these freedoms, more audience are enticed to stream with Netflix, as it is able to reflect the exact content of various television shows. This means that viewers will be able to witness more scenes depicting both reality and science fiction, as well as elements like graphic sex, nudity, and disturbing violence.
According to Daily Mail UK, Netflix's original content attracted viewers, which sets the streaming site from its competitors. In addition to the aforementioned freedoms, Netflix managed to stream contents with TV-MA rating, which refers to shows that are intended for mature audiences.
The nominations acquired by Netflix for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards were from six various scripted series, namely James Foley and team's drama series "House of Cards," Jenji Kohan's comedy series "Orange Is The New Black," and Jose Padilha's drama series "Narcos."
Some nominees and award grabbers were notably surprising. Amazon's "Mozart in the Jungle" and Hulu's "Casual" were nominated for the best comedy series. On the other part, Netflix's "Master of None" and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schimdt" were expected to be nominated.
The five biggest broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, The CW) got a total of 11 nominations while the streaming networks (Netflix, Amazon, Hulu) and the premium cable networks (HBO, Starz, Showtime) managed to have 14 nominations.
