Neil Patrick Harris to Host Oscars 2015 Ceremony - Checks Off His Bucket List

A representative for the Oscars has confirmed that Neil Patrick Harris, star of the TV series 'How I Met Your Mother' will be hosting the 87th Academy Awards in 2015.

Harris said that hosting the ceremony is included on his bucket list, as seen in a video he posted on Twitter last Thursday. He circles "host the Oscars" on paper that has "have children" and "meet the president" already crossed out. He also exclaims "I'm in," in the said video.

The 41-year old actor felt thrilled and honored when he was asked to take on this role. According to his statement to ABC, he watched the Oscars growing up and "was always in such we of some of the greats who hosted the show."

"To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true," he said.

He had previously hosted the Tony and Emmy Awards in both in 2013. He received praise for his previous hosting stints, which usually start off with a musical number.

Audiences are anticipating if he will do the same in this year's Academy Awards.

Besides playing the role of Barney Stinson on the CBS series 'How I Met Your Mother', he also stars in the movie 'Gone Girl', along with Ben Affleck.

Harris is also part of the off-Broadway musical 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch', which recently finished its season.

Last year's Oscars were hosted by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. Other actors who took on the role in the past include Seth Macfarlane, Billy Crystal, and Steve Martin.

The 87th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, CA on February 22, 2015. The broadcast for the event will air on ABC.
