Neil Patrick Harris to Host New NBC Variety Show, Features- Music, Games, Pranks, Celebrities & More
Neil Patrick Harris has recently been given the responsibility of hosting the Oscars next year. Now, the Tony- and Emmy-award winning actor is set to showcase his hosting prowess in an upcoming NBC variety show, announced the Comcast Corporation on Monday.
Neil Patrick Harris became popular for his role in the long-running CBS comedy series 'How I Met Your Mother' as the womanizer and ladies' man Barney Stinson.
Harris' new gig as a host on the NBC Variety show will not only showcase his hosting skills, but also feature musical numbers, game shows, live comedy skits as well as hidden camera pranks on celebrities and appearances by A-list stars, according to a statement released by NBC.
The show does not have a title yet, but its format will reportedly take its roots from the popular British ITV show 'Ant and Doc's Saturday Night Takeaway', which has already been cloned in an Italian and German version.
NBC has already ordered 10 episodes of the show from ITV Studios America, which will be filmed in front of a live audience.
"As I watched the show, I couldn't stop smiling. Now that I've seen many seasons, my face hurts. It's a game changer," Harris said in a statement.
"Nothing like this has been done before, and its unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can't wait to roll up my sleeves and have some fun!" the 41-year old actor added.
Meanwhile, Harris currently stars in David Finchrer's thriller film 'Gone Girl' and has hosted the Tonys and the Emmys in the past years.
Harris has won a Tony award for "Best Musical Actor" for his performance in Broadway musical 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch.'
As of now, Harris is on tour promoting his new book, 'Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography'.
