NBC Fall TV Lineup Update: Network Axes 'Bad Judge' and 'A to Z', 'The Blacklist' to Fill the Slots
NBC has just released the new Fall TV lineup, which reveals that the network has axed two freshman comedy shows - 'Bad Judge' and 'A to Z', both of which air on Thursdays.
Yahoo! reports that the network will fill the slots with 'The Blacklist', which will be aired for an hour at 9 pm immediately following the Super Bowl.
NBC has, however, announced that both 'Bad Judge' and 'A to Z' will continue their original 13-episode orders and be aired in their original 9 pm slots on Thursday. However, the network has decided against ordering any more new episodes of either series.
Currently, 'The Blacklist', which stars James Spader in the role of a former government agent, airs on Mondays.
Stepping back into the canceled programming, Kate Walsh portrays the character of Rebecca Wright, a very respected and tough criminal court judge in Los Angeles in 'Bad Judge'. Her unconventional behavior in the courtroom in addition to her sharp tongue gives Rebecca Wright quite the reputation. Nevertheless, the judge has a wild private life and it seems that she is unable to settle down with any of the men who are after her.
On the other hand Ben Feldman and Cristi Milioti feature as a loving couple Andrew and Zelda in 'A to Z'. The series chronicles their life, showing how the two became a couple and why they almost were not. Andrew and Zelda meet after a computer glitch that sends Zelda to an interview for an online dating site. Incidentally, Andrew works at this online dating site.
Despite the interesting plot-lines about a wild judge and the 'love at first site' couple, 'Bad Judge' and 'A to Z' has failed to keep viewers engaged. Though both the shows took off well initially, but they could not withstand the tough competition with ABC's 'Scandal' and CBS' comedy block, which are aired at the same time. Interestingly, the fans of 'Scandal' have been screaming for more.
While the viewership of 'A to Z' dropped to nearly 22 percent since its premiere, even the ratings of 'Bad Judge' have been declining steadily since its premiere.
In fact, 'Bad Judge' and 'A to Z' are not the first to be axed by NBC for their poor ratings. Earlier this Fall, network canceled 'Manhattan Love'.
