NBA Trade Rumors, News 2014: Stephen Curry Says Golden State Warriors Right Not to Trade Klay Thompson for Kevin Love [VIDEO]

Stephen Curry thinks the Golden State Warriors were correct in keeping Klay Thompson, instead of trading him for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love.

Talking to WFAN recently, Curry stated that including Love would have definitely strengthened the Warriors, but added that retaining Thompson was the appropriate choice by the team authorities. He said, "Obviously Kevin Love's a great player and they were making the decision whether that would make us a better team to let him go, bring Kevin on, and I think they made the right choice that me and him in the backcourt and core that we have."

Although the Warriors were among some of the favorites to acquire Love in an NBA trade this summer, they were also rigid in excluding Thompson in any trade packages. In fact, the Timberwolves insisted on including Thompson in the deal, but the Warriors refused to budge, and eventually ended their talks with Minnesota.

Meanwhile, Curry, who enjoyed his career's best year last season averaging 24.0 points, 8.5 assists plus 4.3 rebounds, is positive that they can still run for a title next season in spite of their failure to acquire Love.

He said, "We've got a legit shot at winning the championship next year, and I'm ready to take that on," adding, "I think all those rumors are gone now, and we'll get back to business."

In another interview with The Dan Patrick Show via CSN Bay Area, Curry further acknowledged that top Warriors officials made the right call.

Replying to a question if he would have agreed to trade Thompson to acquire Love, Curry straight forwardly said, "I don't think you can give up Klay to make that happen. We have such a good core together. You got David Lee, Andrew Bogut ... We were a great team last year. Put the same core together another year, we gotta get better, right?"

It is reported that now Love, with an average of 26.1 points and 12.5 rebounds each game last season, will be traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers before the end of August in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett.
