NBA 2014 Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers Trade News: Shawn Marion to Decide Which to Sign Deal With

The Indiana Pacers are looking for someone who can fill Paul George's spot and they decided to look toward free-agent Shawn Marion. Larry Bird, Pacers president, confirmed Marion's visit with the team last Monday, but it appears that they're not the only ones interested, as the Cleveland Cavaliers also look to make a deal with the 15-year NBA vet.

"What I came away with was he's undecided with where he wants to play and what he wants to do," Bird said, "But he does want to play for a contender."

The Cavs are enticing Marion to join the team because of their chances at the championship now that LeBron James is back. However, the Cavs have a limited salary cap that can only accommodate $1.4 million salary for their future hires.

On the other hand, the Pacers still have $5.3 million at their disposal. However, Pacers would have to pay luxury tax of more than $1.7 million if they spend more than the league's exception.

"We met with Shawn Marion and tried to gauge his interest, but there's no way to replace Paul George," Bird said.

Bird also revealed in a news conference that their meeting did not have a conclusion, "What I came away with was he's undecided with where he wants to play and what he wants to do," Bird said. "But he does want to play for a contender."

Marion is also reported to have met with Cavs general manager David Griffin. Marion and Griffin used to play together with the Phoenix Suns, the duo made four trips to the All-Star Games.
