NBA Free Agency 2014: Start Date, Rumors and PIE Rankings List
Big named NBA players like LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwayne Wade will remain on their current team's roster, or find new franchises to shine in when the NBA Free Agency 2014 kicks off on July 1.
John Schuhmann of NBA.com ranked all 151 free agents based on Player Impact Estimate (PIE). According to NBA.com, "PIE shows what % of game events did that player or team achieve. The stats being analyzed are your traditional basketball statistics (PTS, REB, AST, TOV, etc.) A team that achieves more than 50% is likely to be a winning team. A player that achieves more than 10% is likely to be better than the average player."
Of course, the higher the PIE is, the more it correlates to winning games. A long list was provided, but these are the names at the top of the list. NBA.com's No.1 free agent is 4-time NBA Most Valuable Player LeBron James, which rumors say, might leave his current team the Miami Heat for losing this year's finals against the San Antonio Spurs.
The 29-year-old player has a PIE of 20.0%. Silent on whether or not he stays with his team, James announced "I will deal with my summer when I get to that point. Me and my team will sit down and deal with it. You guys are trying to find answers. I'm not going to give you one. I'm just not going to give it to you," said James in Basketball Insider.
Meanwhile number 2 on the list is last year's second leading scorer Carmelo Anthony, who is expected to opt out of his contract as well. Anthony has a PIE of 16.2%. Reports have no clear decision from Anthony, but according to sources, "His heart is in New York, but he wants a chance to win now."
The list included Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan, Dwayne Wade, Eric Bledsoe, Kyle Lowry, Isaiah Thomas, Pau Gasol, Kris Humphries, Jordan Hill, Zach Randolph, Lance Stephenson, Chris Bosh, Marcin Gortat, Andre Blatche, Rudy Gay, Paul Pierce, Amar'e Stoudemire and Patty Mills.
