NBA 2015 News: Kevin Garnett Suspended for One Game After Head-Butting Dwight Howard
Brooklyn Nets power forward Kevin Garnett has been suspended for one game as he head-butted Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard on Monday.
After the squabble, Garnett was ejected from the game and he went back to the locker room. Howard was also fined for $15,000 due to the fight. In an interview with Mike Mazzeo from ESPN, Howard revealed that Garnett always "talks trash" when he is playing against him.
The Rockets player added "he'll have you so upset by the end of the game. ... Most of the time, he's just talking to himself, but you just think he's talking to you, so it's crazy."
The decision to suspend Garnett came from NBA President of Basketball Operations Rod Thorn. The NBA team determined that Garnett initiated the fight while Howard responded with a punch in the neck.
Brooklyn Nets head coach Lionel Hollins disagrees with NBA's decision to exempt Howard from exiting the game. The coach said that in his opinion Howard punched Garnett and he hoped that both players will be ejected from the game but it did not happen. Hollins added that his opinion does not matter and NBA did their job about the altercation.
The Nets forward will not be joining his team in their game against Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. Hollins admitted that it will be a difficult game without Garnett considering the fact that it is already a challenging match even if he is around.
The coach was unable to point out why Garnett did it but he said that it is an "emotional game." During the match, players may get hot tempered but they must pay the consequences after.
This is not the first time Garnett had clashes with other NBA players. In 2004, the athlete was also fined for $7,500 for elbowing Anthony Peeler during the semifinals in the Western Conference.
Howard is not the only victim for his reported trash talks since Garnett made former Boston Celtics teammate Glen Davis cry after he howled at him during a game in 2008. In 2013, New York Knicks player Carmelo Anthony reportedly confronted Garnett after the latter's remarks on his wife.
As of this time, Garnett kept his silence about the brawl. The player will reportedly lose $109,000 out of his $12 million salary.
