NBA 2014 Rumors, News: Ray Allen to Retire? Legend has Second Thoughts After Being Courted by Several Teams
The 39-year old NBA basketball player, Ray Allen, is still weighing his options as to whether he wants to play or retire.
If he chooses to play, several NBA teams like the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and the NBA 2013 champion San Antonio Spurs will want Allen on their team.
On August 30, Allen stated while on break at the Citi Ray Allen Basketball Procamp at East Granby High, "I'm not in any rush [to make a decision]. I've played 18 years, and the way I look at my career, I'm content with everything that I've done. I just want to take this summer and see how it goes."
Aside from that, Allen is being wooed by the Washington Wizards who left a position in their team vacant supposedly for Allen.
The Wizards already acquired Paul Pierce, Allen's former Boston Celtics teammate. Having Allen, dubbed the "best 3-point shooter of all-time" by CBS Los Angeles, will greatly boost their rankings in the NBA Eastern Conference, according to Venture Capital Post.
In a statement by James Herbert of CBS Sports regarding Allen's basketball career, and if he chooses to retire, he said that Allen who won two NBA championships and had a polished career will become a future "Hall of Famer" nevertheless.
"There are several contending teams that would love to have him. If he's rather hang out with his family for now and see how retirement suits him, those teams would probably still want him in February or March," Herbert adds.
Allen can still play one more year in the NBA, and opportunities are up for grabs for the basketball veteran. On the other hand, if he chooses to retire, it will not be a disappointment as Allen already had a long prosperous career, according to The Courant.
