NBA 2014 News, Rumors: Kevin Durant to Stay with Team USA for FIBA, Other All-Star Players Drop Out

Kevin Durant is most likely staying with the USA team while preparing for the International Basketball Federation. While other star players like Russell Westbrook, Blake Griffin, or Kevin Love dropped out of the team in favor of the playoffs, Durant has chosen to stay at the cost of rest.

Griffin cited that dropping out of the USA team for the FIBA enabled him to prepare for the upcoming playoff season. There were also reports that Griffin was taking this time to rest due to a back fracture he suffered last season.

Love was next on the list as he spent most of his time and energy in looking for a team to play in for the playoffs. Most likely, his landing spot will be the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Lastly, Westbrook decided to rest all summer in anticipation of the playoffs. Just last year, the player suffered three knee injuries that caused him to lose some play time with the Thunders. Fortunately, he made it back before the season ended.

Team USA is not faring well after four all-star players dropped out, this also takes into account the players who decided to opt out of being included in the roster for the FIBA in the first place. Among those players were LeBron James, Dwight Howard, and Anthony Carmelo.

With Durant being the only all-star player left on the USA side, it would seem that he will be relied on most heavily by his teammates and his coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Krzyzewski has said Monday that, "Kevin loves being here and he wants to play for his country. Guys see that and they look to him for leadership because he's been with us the last two international competitions and he has competed at a high level and won."

This will take some toll on Durant's overall health because of the potential lack of rest, but for him, it may be all worth it with the experiences he will gain. He told reporters Monday, "I do want to take care of my body, but I also want to experience all this stuff. Ten, 12 years, it flies by. I want to have as many memories as possible."
