The Washington Nationals will travel to Atlanta to take on NL East leaders and division rivals the Braves for what's bound to be a pretty tough nosed game. Bottom line, the Atlanta Braves are the best team. They also own the Washington Nationals. The Braves have beaten the Nationals 5 of 7 games this season.
The Nationals are 26th in the MLB in runs scored. That's 190 runs in 54 games; roughly an average of 3.5 runs a game. Against the Braves that number goes down to about 1.8 runs a game.
Stephen Strasburg is on the mound for the Nationals tonight. Strasburg (3-5, 2.49 ERA) is off to a pretty good start in 2013. If Strasburg can keep his team tied or ahead going into the relief pitchers the Nationals may have a chance. The scary truth is that the Nationals haven't won a game this season after going down two runs. The key to a Nationals win is staying ahead or on par with the Braves the entire game.
As of Wednesday, the Braves had won 8 of their last 10 games. Julio Teheran (3-1, 3.67 ERA) gets the start tonight for the Braves. After a terrible first three outings, Teheran has been on fire in his last 6 starts [3-1, 2.23 ERA].
"He's getting better and he's more in the zone," says Braves catcher Gerald Laird. "He's getting confidence in pitching to halves of the plate. I'm not afraid to call certain pitches that I was timid to call earlier in the year."
Washington Nationals VS Atlanta Braves starts at 7:05 PM ET.
