'Mulaney' Premiere Date, Episode 1 Recap, Reviews: Viewers Slam New Program, Second Episode- Second Chance?

Fox Network aired the pilot episode of their new comedy series, 'Mulaney' on Oct. 5, but some viewers wish they hadn't. Apparently, TV people from all over caught Episode 1 of the show and had some pretty sour things to say about it.

'Mulaney' is a new American sitcom that was created by stand-up comedian and former Saturday Night Live writer John Mulaney. In the show, John stars as a fictional version of himself, drawing from his popular and highly comedic stand-up comedy routine.

Viewers of the show reported that some pretty big names in the comedy scene appear in the show including, Nasim Pedrad as Jane, Seaton Smith as Motif, Zack Pearlman as Andre, Elliott Gould as Oscar, Martin Short as Lou Cannon.

In an overview of the show by Zap2it, they mention that maybe the show doesn't deserve such a start studded cast. The report reads, "Mulaney is a very strange case of an insanely funny cast stuck in a show that simply doesn't deserve them."

Stepping into Episode 1, "Pilot," fans saw the main character, John Mulaney, get hired by comedian Lou Cannon as a writer on his show. Evidently, the first episode attempted to debut the series with a rather comical concept. Some viewers went on to say that the idea for the first episode, seems "Seinfeldesque."

Despite a unique opening concept, many viewers of the show were left a bit jaw-dropped after watching the first episode, in a bad way. Reddit users took to an official 'Mulaney' discussion thread and posted their thoughts about Episode 1.

On top commenter wrote, "I....I don't get it so far. Like, am I missing something here? I like John Mulaneys stand up but this isn't good. Is this supposed to be like some ironic humor? Is his acting an ironic joke on how sitcom actors act?"

Another took a more analytical approach and tried to tackle the heart of the problem, "This show is so hard to watch. The actual structure of the jokes makes me think that John Mulaney had nothing to do with writing this show."

Additional commentary about the "Pilot" episode does not differ much from the those two posts, and judging by the "upvotes" they've received, many other viewers felt the same way.

However, on the brighter side, some viewers feel the need to give the show a second chance, and they can do so on October 12, when Fox airs Episode 2 entitled "Sweet Jane."
