'Mulan' Live Action Cast, Release Date: Actress Jamie Chung To Play Pivotal Role?

The "Mulan" live-action film cast is still not complete, although Jamie Chung is thought to be the frontrunner to play the most important role of all. The movie release date is reportedly going to be two years from now.

The casting call for the "Mulan" live-action film is still open and Disney is currently on a "global casting search for a Chinese actress" who will play the lead. The original 1998 animated film was voiced by veteran actress Ming-Na Wen of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

When Disney announced that it's producing a live-action movie on the Chinese hero, fans immediately took online to distribute a signature campaign so that the studio would not whitewash the film. The term refers to the practice of casting Caucasians to play roles of ethnic origins.

To date, the online campaign generated about 100,000 signatures, and Disney seems to be listening.

"Mulan" grossed $304,320,254 worldwide, which was a big hit considering that its budget was only $70 million.

According to Variety, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver jumped on board last year to rewrite the "Mulan" live-action film. They were responsible for "Avatar" and "Jurassic World." The original script was penned by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek.

The report said that the "Mulan" live-action film's casting call is being rushed in order to move along the production.

The "Mulan" live-action movie release date is set on Nov. 2, 2018. The casting call is still open to those interested. Any new information on the film cast will be reported here when they become available.
