Motorola Moto 360 vs Samsung Galaxy Gear 2: Review of Specs, and Top Features Comparison

Even though the Motorola Moto 360 has not yet been released, it's already being compared to the latest in Samsung's smart wear, the Galaxy Gear 2. As it stands, the new Samsung device is looking at some stiff competition when September rolls around with the release of the Moto 360.

Currently, the hardware specs of the Moto 360 have not been disclosed, so a comparison between the Galaxy Gear 2 and the aforementioned device has to revolve around the already revealed features.

Firstly, both devices will run on the Android OS platform.

The Galaxy Gear 2 comes across as a standard wearable smartphone. It has the capabilites to take photos and make phone calls, much like any smart phone these days. However, beyond that, the device has a pedometer, heart rate monitor, and various exercise modes.

The Moto 360 on the other hand, comes across as more of a stand alone device, more like a watch than a smart phone. The features already disclosed lean toward the idea that the device is taking smart wear in a different direction.

Moto 360 will be the first in the market to feature a round-face design, unlike the box like types that are already available. Next, Motorola Moto 360 will use Sapphire glass, instead of Gorilla glass, as it's four times harder. This move not only protects the watch from major dings and scratches, but also ups the price.

Another feature is the device's ambient light sensor. This gauges the level of light in the area and adjusts the brightness accordingly. Instead of the user's manual change to the brightness of the device to see the screen better, the watch does it automatically, which conserves battery power as well.

Lastly, the Moto 360 is able to charge wirelessly, thanks to "Qi charging" technology. Only a few smartphones have this feature which is being carried over to the Moto 360.

It is still unclear on whether the Moto 360 will topple the Galaxy Gear 2 in terms of specs, but when it comes to the features, surely the Moto 360 has something special to offer. It may be awhile before Samsung can make a smart watch that can stand up to the Motorola marvel, but by then, the iWatch might already making its debut.
