Moto 360 Release Date: Coming Holiday Season 2014 - Specs, Features and Price News
In line with Samsung's Galaxy Gear and LG's G Watch, Motorola is set to release their bid on wearable devices with Moto 360 this holiday season.
Motorola has yet to confirm the smartwatch's exact market debut date, but it has been revealed that the device will grace the market with its presence sometime before the holidays. Beyond that, information has leaked about its price, specifications and features.
Many believe that Moto 360 will have to be released around the same time as Apple's iWatch, if Motorola wants to compete in the wearable device market.
Also, Motorola is going for a traditional watch feel, so shape-wise the Moto 360 is round, which is totally unique from the Samsung and LG box type.
To conserve battery life, the Moto 360 will use an OLED display, and it's orientation-free, meaning it can be worn on either wrist. The screensaver will display the time, like a normal watch, when not in use.
Instead of the standard Gorilla Glass, Motorola's smartwatch will have Sapphire glass, which is reported to be four times stronger.
Additionally, the Moto 360 will not be exclusive to Motorola devices, as opposed to Samsung's Galaxy Gear that can only be used with Samsung devices. Moto 360 will be compatible with any Android device running on 4.4.3 or higher, and even the upcoming Android L.
The Moto 360 will not have a micro USB port for charging, as it is aesthetically unpleasant. Instead, Google has innovated a magnetically wireless way to charge the device.
Taking all these features into consideration, a smartwatch like this would likely go for $350, but Motorola is hinting that it will only cost about $250 at the most.
