'Mortal Kombat X' Release Date, New Characters: Quan Chi Confirmed as Character

Series creator Ed Boon has recently revealed a new playable character to the upcoming installment of the 'Mortal Kombat' videogame franchise. 'Mortal Kombat X' is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and the Xbox One on April 14, 2015.

A new video has come with the announcement of Quan Chi on the roster of playable characters. The three minute video showcases how he will look in the game and various moves he will be able to perform.

One of his moves that stands out is his ability to teleport. While it's not uncommon for characters in the franchise to possess that ability, the way Quan Chi does it it rather unique. When he teleports, his arms and legs disappear and reemerge inside dimensional rifts.

Beyond Quan Chi, other characters that have been confirmed as playable in 'Mortal Kombat X' are Raiden, Kotal Kahn, Scorpion, Kano and Sub Zero. These classic characters have made their comeback into the tenth installment in NetherRealms Studios' flagship fighting game series.

Stepping back into the latest character confirmation, another interesting Quan Chi move is his ability to summon familiars. In the video, gamers and fans alike can see Quan Chi summon a bat type creature to aid him in combat.

While that ability seems unique and interesting, it's not yet clear how effective the move is going to be when the opponent attempts to block it.

The character Quan Chi actually made his MK debut in an animated series, not one of the videogames. He appeared in 'Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm' way before he was a playable character.

Gamers got the chance to play the 'Mortal Kombat' villain for the first time in 'Mortal Kombat 4' which released on October 15, 1997.

On that note, 'Mortal Kombat' fans will get to play as Quan Chi once again, but this time, in a new updated and visually improved form.
