MLB: Reds VS Marlins / Cincinnati Pitcher Matt Latos, Miami In Danger of Losing Eighth Game in Last Nine
Tonight, May 16, 2013 is filled with excellent MLB match ups. The Cincinnati Reds face the Miami Marlins tonight at 7:10 EST. The 24-16 Reds should have the 11-29 Marlins beat. A win would a straight sweep over the three game series.
Matt Latos (4-0, 3.04 ERA) will be pitching for the Reds in what he hopes to be his fourth straight victory. The Marlins haven't been good regardless of the pitcher. Hopefully for the city of Miami Jose Fernandez (2-2, 3.65 ERA) can combat the Reds slugfest of a lineup.
In their last matchup Reds lead-off hitter Shin-Soo Choo had a career high 4 hits, two of which were home runs. Choo also leads the team with nine homeruns. Miami was shut out 4-0, giving them a league record at seven.
When asked about his hitting approach Choo says he's just swinging and hoping to make contact.
"This ballpark is big," said Choo. "Some balls fly, some don't. I'm not thinking about hitting homers. I'm just swinging hard."
Luckily for Latos the Miami Marlins are the worst hitting team in the National League. Their last in runs scored [110], team batting average [.224], and home runs [22].
"We definitely have some guys that are struggling," said Marlins manager Mike Redmond. "We need guys to step up. We know we're capable of more offense than this."
Trying to avoid their eighth loss in nine games, the Marlins have a lot of work to do against a hot Reds team.
