MLB 2014 News: Former Major League Outfielder Jose Canseco Accidentally Shoots Himself While Cleaning Gun

Former Major League Outfielder Jose Canseco was reported to have accidentally shot himself last Tuesday night while cleaning his gun. Reports claim that Conseco wasn't aware that his gun was loaded and accidentally pulled the trigger.

Canseco was said to be peacefully cleaning his large calibre hand gun in his Las Vegas home when he accidentally shot his middle finger on his left hand. The former MLB slugger had gone through surgery last Tuesday and according to reports, Canseco may never fully use his finger ever again.

During the baseball player's surgery, his fiancé Leila Knight posted on Canseco's Twitter account saying "This is Leila. Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. Jose is in still surgery and will be ok. Please pray for his finger!"

Right now, Canseco is currently recovering according to news reports as Canseco's daughter Josie Canseco announced on her Twitter account saying "Thank you to everyone for your concern, my dad is safe and recovering," she wrote.

KNTV's Spencer Lubitz also posted on his Twitter account. "#BREAKING: Metro police say Jose Canseco is recovering in a hospital after shooting himself in the hand #Vegas," Lubitz wrote.

Meanwhile, the latest photo of the baseball star showing off his finger which underwent surgical operation was posted by Canseco himself. He captioned his post with "Got no sleep. Hope I can keep my finger but grateful it wasn't something worse @ModelLeila my nurse taking good care," Canseco wrote.

On a side note, Canseco was reported to have hit more than 450 home runs during his 17 seasons in the big leagues, won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 1986, and became the league MVP with the Oakland A's.
