'Mistresses' Season 3 News: Canceled or Renewed? ABC Show Almost Certain to Be Dropped

'Mistresses' producers K.J. Steinberg revealed in an interview with TVLine that Season 2's story was not meant to close out the series. According to her, the second season was supposed to line up a specific set of events that will occur in the third season of the show. However, as it stands, there is no word of a renewal of the popular program for another installment.

What's interesting, is that the show's Season 2 finale is just days away, and there is no news about a Season 3. In light of this, Steinberg said that even if the show ends up getting cancelled, she feels her and the other producers have done a good job telling the stories of the 'Mistresses' characters within the two seasons.

One of the reasons that Season 2 might just be the final season of 'Mistresses' is that the ratings have recently plummeted. Apparently, the American TV drama series reportedly lost about 200,000 of its viewers from the original 1.2 million it had during its first season.

Even though the loss of viewership seems slight, and that a cancellation does not seem merited, the show stands a serious chance to close out after only two seasons.

For now, 'Mistresses' fans will just have to keep an ear out for good news after they watch the Season 2 finale episode that will air on September 8. On a side note, the last episode in the season promises to thicken the plot, as several mysteries are revealed.

Alyssa Milano, Yunjin Kim, Jes Macallan, and Rochelle Aytes star in 'Mistresses', which first premiered in June of 2013.
