Miss World Pageant News: 'Swimsuit Contest' Officially Removed from Competition Lineup

Reports have surfaced about the Miss World competition and how future pageants will not longer feature the classic swimsuit round. Evidently, the organizers of the contests do not want to the Miss World competition to be simply know for as a "bikini contest."

After 63 years of competitions, the pageant has eliminated the swimsuit round from their lineup of events, and replaced it with"beachwear" round.

"It'll be more of a fashion completion than a bikini show," Chris Wilmer, the national director of the Miss United States organization, defends the decision, "It's not just a beauty contest, it's 'beauty with a purpose.' There didn't seem to be a purpose to have the swimsuit."

Miss Worlds are expected to focus on charity work and other worthy causes. Wilmer asserts that Miss World should be a spokesperson for the community. The organization is attempting to modernize the competition to suit a world with different, deeper needs.

"The organization has decided to take itself out of the swimsuit world because it isn't the path they're trying to take," Chris asserts.

This major change has been both admired and critiqued by fans of the Miss World Pageant. One news organization, The Times from the U.K, attests that the removal of the swimsuit round is in response to an enraged Muslim community.

Posts all over Twitter express great disappointment. One tweet reads, "@ABC so they removed the lone reason to watch it. Got it."

Nevertheless, many fans find that this is the right move for an organization that has been struggling against accusations of ignorant Miss World ambassadors. One response reads, "Miss World gets rid of swimsuit competition... and now maybe I have a smidgen of respect for beauty pageants."

Regardless of how some fans of Miss World competitions feel, the swimsuit contest is gone for good.
