Miss USA Recap: Miss Connecticut, Erin Brady, Wins the Crown, but Miss Utah, Marissa Powell Stole the Show

The Miss America pageant is always one of the most dignified, classy, and respected events in America...except when it's not. Marissa Powell, the representative from Utah, stole the show last night during the question and answer section.

The question posed to Miss Utah was about men and women recieving different pay scales in the American workplace. The judge asked the question and then asked "What does this say about society?" One could take this question and answer it any of several ways. Marissa Powell, however, went... a different way.

"I think we can relate this back to education and how we are continuing to try to strive to -- figure out how to create jobs right now," Powell said. "That is the biggest problem and, I think, especially the men are seen as the leaders of this, so we need to -- create education better so we can solve this problem."

Ouch. Granted, the interview portion of the pageant was (and is) never about finding women with incredible depth of insight and extensive knowledge of geo-political affairs. It, more often than not, tends to be about being quick on your feet, and about being able to respond gracefully under pressure.

Regardless of what you think that the purpose of the interview section is, we know one thing for sure: Miss Utah would like her answer back.
