‘Minecraft’ Xbox One, PS4 Update: DualShock 4 Featured; Discount Upgrades
Mojang announced on June 12 the newest development for the upcoming Minecraft Playstation 4 edition. Aside from a bigger universe, the latest offering from Minecraft will use the DualShock touchpad for easier navigation and "crafting" as well as sharing experiences online.
4J, Minecraft's software developer, emphasized that the inclusion of the touchpad is completely optional and players can still use the traditional joystick buttons in building their craft. The PS4 version also houses worlds that are "36 times bigger than the ones you might be used to on PlayStation 3," Mojang wrote on the Playstation Blog.
Also, users who have been playing Minecraft on PS3 are eligible for an upgrade at a discount price. Upgrades for the PS Vita version are downloadable online for free, while the Xbox version is set at $4.99. The standard rate for all downloadable contents is $19.99, according to Playstation Blog.
"Anyone who's previously bought PlayStation 3 Edition will be able to upgrade to PlayStation 4 Edition for a small fee. This applies to everyone who's bought Minecraft digitally and transfers their PSN account to their new console. Our intention is to make this work for the disc version of Minecraft too, but it's proving a bit trickier to set up. We'll post more info on this as soon as possible," Mojang said.
Meanwhile, Owen Hill of Mojang confirmed that save files from older versions of Minecraft are compatible even if users upgrade their game to the latest version. Hill added, "We value the loyalty of the Sony fans who bought Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition last year, and want to make things as simple as possible for any early adopters."
Minecraft for Playstation 4 and PS VIta is scheduled to be released on August 2014.
