Miley Cyrus News: 'Wrecking Ball' Singer Donates at amfAR Inspiration Gala, Tom Ford Honored Guest
The 5th Annual amfAR Inspiration gala was held on October 29 in Los Angeles. The event raises funds for AIDS research, especially for amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research. It's dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, education, and AIDS-related public policy.
This year, Tom Ford was the guest of honor. He received an Award of Inspiration, both for his contributions to menswear design and his staunch commitment to fighting AIDS. He told Style before the ceremonies began "I'm going to say this when I get onstage, but I'm a little self-conscious about this award because the most inspiring thing for me is the men and women who devote their lives to eradicating HIV and AIDS, so an inspiration award to me is really for them."
The event included a high-end auction. Rihanna spent $35,000 on Harry Winston diamond link earrings set in platinum, for instance. The queen of high spenders was Miley Cyrus, who spent a half-million dollars at the gala. She donated $200,000 to amfAR outright and spent another $300,000 on a Ryan McGinley photograph. She said, "I'm a little drunk," when asked why she decided to donate so much.
Perhaps that explains her dress, a scandalous, bondage-inspired black number that has virtually no front and doesn't leave a whole lot to the imagination. Rihanna was similarly under-clothed as well. Her white dress also lacked a front, but her modesty was sort of preserved by the creative application of pasties that resembled flower petals.
