Mike Miller to the Thunder? Oklahoma City is the Front Runner for the Miami Sharp Shooter / Heat Still Looking at Greg Oden
Mike Miller was a coaches dream the last couple of years for the Miami Heat. During the regular season, he might not see much playing time, might not even get in a game some nights, but when playoff time came around, he was ready.
Miller was slowed down by injuries the last two years that he was with the Heat, but his clutch shooting in the playoffs, helped them win back to back Championships. Against the Thunder in Game 5 of the 2012 NBA Championship, Miller caught fire and hit 7 of 8 three pointers in the close out game to beat Oklahoma City 4-1.
In the 2013 playoff run, Mike Miller might not even get in the game one night and then the next game would be a huge contributor. He never seemed to complain about this or his role and was a true professional.
After winning back to back Championships with the Heat, Miller ended up being amnestied by Miami on Tuesday so they could add some new, younger pieces. Yesterday, Miller cleared waivers and is now a unrestricted free agent able to go to any team.
The Miami Heat are reportedly back in the hunt to grab the always injured big man, Greg Oden, from the Portland Trailblazers. If healthy, Oden could be the dominate force inside that the Heat have always lacked. However, the health of Oden has always been the issue and it is a huge gamble to bring him in. It would be nice to see him given the chance though for a low salary as if he could stay healthy it would be a great story.
The front runner to pick up the 33-year-old Miller, is the team who he lit up in the Finals 2 years ago, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder are looking to add some more shooting and bench scoring, still trying to fill the hole that James Harden left and now with Kevin Martin gone as well. Miller obviously is not the player that Harden is, but good teams can never stock up on too many shooters.
The Thunder general manager, Sam Presti, is scheduled to head down to Miami to meet with Mike Miller this coming week. Right now, the Thunder only can offer a on year, $1.4 million deal to Miller without going into the luxury tax. However, they still have time to release a player or two to maybe free up some more room as well.
Mike Miller has been a true professional the last few years and it would be great to see him join another contender.
Do you think Miller should go to the Thunder? Do you think he would make the Thunder a better team?
