Tigers VS Rangers: Miguel Cabrera Finishes 4-4 with 3 HR, 5 RBI in Loss to Texas

The reigning Triple Crown winner isn't showing any signs of slowing down. In a losing effort to the Texas Rangers on Sunday night, Miguel Cabrera finished a perfect 4-4, with 3 home runs and 5 runs batted in. He also added a double and a walk for good measure. His 5 RBI's were the majority of the Detroit offensive effort, supplemented by Prince Fielder's 3 in the game. But what scares American League pitchers the most is not that Cabrera isn't slowing down, but that he might just be hitting his stride.

Last year, in his MVP campaign, Cabrera finished with a whopping 44 home runs, 139 runs batted in, and a batting average of .330, winning the elusive Triple Crown of baseball. Only 13 others have ever achieved the feat of leading each of these offensive categories. And, as baseball progresses and evolves to require players with more defined skill sets and roles, it has only gotten harder to win the award. Players are usually pegged as either "power" or "average" guys, and rarely both. The strikeout rate in Major League Baseball has soared in recent years because of this.

All these things considered, Cabrera's accomplishments are more than impressive. At this rate, he is on pace to bat in 170 runs. It is highly unlikely that he will reach that number, with no previous leaders reaching over 150, with the exeption of Manny Ramirez's 165 in 1999. But, the fact that Cabrera could possible eclipse his 2012 totals or even come close show that he will be knocking around opposing pitchers for years to come. This is great news for baseball fans, as we get to watch a hall-of-fame career in the making.
