Microsoft News: Tech Titan Ends Support for Many Lumia Windows Phones Apps, Services on Oct. 30

Microsoft has begun to remove several Windows Phone apps and services from the Windows Phone Store saying that the company is ending support for these apps and services after Oct. 30. The lists of apps that are being taken down include Lumia Refocus, Lumia Storyteller, Lumia Beamer, Photobeamer, Video Uploader and Lumia Panorama.

Quoting a recent post on Lumia Conversations blog, IB Times reports that Microsoft will also end online services for Lumia Refocus, Lumia Beamer, Lumia Storyteller and Photobeamer on the same day. The Redmond-headquartered tech company has presented some interesting reasons behind the decision to take down these apps and services.

In the blog, Microsoft states, "Our goal is to provide experiences that work really well on all Windows devices. In order to do that, we need to focus on making our Windows 10 core Photos and Camera apps great."

"It is worth mentioning here that several Lumia features are already incorporated into the Windows 10 Photos and Camera apps. While we can't promise that any particular feature is coming back, we're committed to providing a great photo and camera experience in Windows across devices, and we're listening to your feedback as we continue improving our apps," the blog added.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has promised existing Windows Phone app users, who have installed these apps on their smartphones from before that they can continue using them, even after Windows 10 Mobile is upgraded. On the other hand, those apps whose performance depends on online services such as Lumia Storyteller, Lumia Refocus, Lumia Beamer and Photobeamer will stop working, when their development support ends on Oct. 30.

Microsoft has also warned Lumia Storyteller app users to download all their uploaded online content, prior to the end of the support on Oct. 30.

According to the company, "The stories you see in the Lumia Storyteller app on your phone won't be affected and will continue to work within the app, but stories you've published on the "online stories" site will no longer be available from the web service after Oct. 30, 2015. To keep the images and videos in your online stories, open the Storyteller app, select online stories, and view each published story on the web. Then from the website, download all the images and videos that you want to keep. Be sure to do this before Oct. 30, 2015, when the website will no longer be available."
