Microsoft Lumia Smartphone Release Date: First Redmond Based Lumia Smartphone to be Unveiled on Tuesday Nov. 11
It's been just three weeks since Microsoft announced that it will be dropping the original "Nokia" tag from the Lumia smartphones and now the Redmond-headquartered tech company has confirmed that it will be unveiling its first Lumia smartphone on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
On Friday, Microsoft sent out press invites for the launch of the company's latest device together with a photograph of an orange, curved Lumia smartphone. It is said that the upcoming smartphone will be a budget device having low-end specifications, which includes a 5-inch screen display, 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, 1 GB of RAM in addition to a 5-megapixel camera.
The invite reads, "Microsoft is delivering the power of everyday mobile technology to everyone."
Microsoft acquired the Nokia mobile division in April 2014, and since then the company has launched a number of smartphones as the Nokia Lumia brand. As per the sale deed, Microsoft could brand the Lumia smartphones under its brand name only 18 months after closing the deal. Henceforth, its smartphones will be called Microsoft Lumia. Nevertheless, Microsoft can use the Nokia branding on its feature phones for another 10 years.
Microsoft said that it is positive that restructuring the Lumia will facilitate the growth of the company's moderate phone business. At a recent press conference, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that Microsoft has seen solid growth with low-end devices selling in Europe.
Speaking on the same occasion, Microsoft CFO Amy Hood said the company "remains committed to having the phone business break even in fiscal 2015."
Over the years, Microsoft has collaborated with as many as 50 different hardware manufacturers to launch devices running on the Windows Phone operating system. This week, Microsoft announced that some versions of Office will be free on iOS and Android smartphones.
