Microsoft Fitness Band Features, Specs- New Wearable Tech & Cloud-Based Microsoft Health Service

Microsoft has officially breached the wearable technology market with their new Microsoft Band device that keeps track of a wearer's fitness and exercise schedules. The new device officially hits store shelves on Thursday, October 30.

The Redmond-based tech giant also went ahead and launched a cloud-based service called Microsoft Health, which will accumulate data from the fitness band and other similar devices.

The tech giant has claimed that the Microsoft Band incorporates 10 sensors (including a UV sensor for Sun exposure),  allowing the user to check their heart rate, calculate calorie burn and record his/ her quality of sleep throughout the day. In addition, the fitness band will inform the user about various notifications, counting incoming calls, emails, text messages and social media updates from their other devices.

The Microsoft Band comes with a 1.4-inch TFT full color display having a resolution of 320x106 pixels. This wearable device, has dual 100mAh rechargeable lithium-ion polymer batteries, supports Bluetooth connectivity, in addition to working with a range of devices like the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Android 4.3 or 4.4-powered phones.

The Microsoft Band is somewhat similar to Gear Fit released by Samsung and has the ability to last 48 hours on a single charge.

On the other hand, Microsoft Health can compile, store, as well as combine the health and fitness data of the user. This service will be available to users through an app, which will be launched on iOS and Android devices, in addition to the Windows Phone.

Microsoft Health also has the capability to measure work-life balance of the user, for instance, telling the user the manner in which prolonged meetings during the day might have affected their sleep quality at night. Incidentally, the cloud-based service will have access to the Facebook and Twitter accounts of the user.

According to the company, the Microsoft Band will be available in the United States for $199 in limited quantities.
