Michael Schumacher Condition Latest News Update: Former F1 Champion's Long Recovery Time, Up to Three Years

While fans of the F1 racing legend Michael Schumacher are concerned about his condition, the latest reports fortunately reveal that he's on the road to recovery. However, while Schumacher is evidently improving day to day, it's going to be a long time before he's considerably recovered.

The head of the Anesthesiology Department at Grenoble University Hospital in Switzerland, Dr. Jean-Francois Payen, has attended to the former Formula One champion. After going in to see him recently, Dr. Payen said that hes noticed "progress."

Talking to Le Parisien, Dr. Payen said, "I have seen some progress but I would say give him time. It's like other patients; we are in a timescale that ranges from one year to three years, so it takes patience."

"Life after a head injury is punctuated by stages," Dr. Payen told RTL Radio, adding, "We hope, but we have to give him time."

He went on to say, "I kept seeing him, first at the University Hospital of Lausanne, and now at home. It's to see how he progresses and tell his wife and children what changes I observed," adding, "He's in very favorable conditions. This plays a big role. The family environment is anyway best for the patient. His wife is surrounded by excellent advice and has implemented all it takes for it to move forward."

Meanwhile, Jean Todt, Schumacher's former Ferrari boss, talked to a media publication regarding his visit to the Schumachers, "We can say he can probably never drive a Formula 1 car again. But he is fighting,"

Adding, "His condition improved, and what is just as important is the fact that he is now at home with his family."
