Miami Heat to Team Lebron James with Greg Oden: Is Pat Riley Genius or Crazy? Heat Going Big for 3-Peat
The Miami Heat just won their championship a week ago, but work never really stops for the upper management of sports teams right?
They do get some time off, but really they are more busy sometimes during the off season with working out new guys, following up on prospects and working on new trades to make their team better.
It appears that Pat Riley is already spinning his wheels to tweak the Miami Heat roster for a 3-peat next year and the secret weapon is... Greg Oden?
Greg Oden was the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers and everyone knows that he hasn't had much of a career since then. He has had multiple operations and barely been able to get on the court with bad knees.
Oden has not played a regular season NBA game since the 2009-2010 but has been working out and people that have seen him said he is looking great.
Everyone knows that the Heat's weakness is their inside presence and when/if healthy Oden could definitely add a big body inside who is a great shot blocker. They don't need him to score 20 points a game, just be a defensive presence.
Chris Bosh had a poor season and post season statistically and could be on the way out while he still has some trade value left. He can play at the 5 position but is not very strong and it isn't his natural position.
Mike Miller and Joel Anthony both could be up for the Heat's amnesty clause. The clause allow a franchise to release a player and his salary. This would be a tough move though because you only get one chance to do it and Miller especially has come up big in the Finals with his shooting when it was needed the most.
Riley feels that if he can just get some more size and shot blocking on the Heat's roster, then Lebron, Wade and the shooters (which they have a lot of, James Jones never even sees the court anymore) will be able to figure it out on offense.
Just like Riley brought in Ray Allen last year, he will probably tweak the offensive players around this summer too, but we will see.
If you are a Heat fan, would you like the team taking a risk on Greg Oden for next season?
