Meteor Shower 2014: Dates, Time, Where to view and How to Best Watch
Sky watchers are in for a treat as summertime marks the season for meteor showers.
In late July and early August, two meteor showers will converge and give the Northern Hemisphere some of the best meteor shower displays, according to Earthsky.com.
The Perseids are the showers that will be seen on the Northern Hemisphere, while both the Southern and Northern Hemisphere tropic regions will get a spectacular view of the Delta Aquarids.
The meteor showers started on July 12 and it can be viewed until August 23, 2014, with the peak scheduled to take place from July 28 to 29, where 15 to 20 meteors per hour are estimated to be seen in the predawn hours, and the website reports that those in the Southern Hemisphere will have the best view. Sky gazers are advised to look at the Eastern sky with its radiant located to the left of the Fomalhaut star.
The Delta Aquarids meteor shower peak will also be seen during the New Moon which will occur on July 26. Viewers in the northern tropics of the Northern Hemisphere will be able to get an optimal view and observe the shower on this date.
The Delta Aquarids meteor shower in the Northern Hemisphere will take place on August 13 and 14. Observers are advised to look in the lower southern to the southeastern sky, close to the Aquarius constellation.
NASA states that this year's meteor shower peak occurs during a new moon, which means dark skies for ideal viewing conditions. NASA also suggests that viewers should begin looking for the faint meteors after midnight.
Observers from the Southern and Northern Hemispheres are advised to find a spot away from the bright city lights in order to fully appreciate the meteor showers.
