President/CEO of Open Doors USA Dr. David Curry issued the following statement regarding the recent release of 27-year-old Sudanese woman who plans on moving to the US with her family after the horrendous ordeal that nearly took her life.

"The news of Meriam's release is so very heartening and an answer to many prayers worldwide offered up to Jesus on her behalf. The challenge remaining is to eliminate violence and persecution against individuals for their faith," said Curry in a statement, according a Christian Newswire.

"Women of Sudan and elsewhere should have the freedom to read the Bible if they so choose and decide for themselves what they believe. Thankfully, Meriam now has that freedom, but sadly the rest of Sudan's female population does not," continued Curry.

As a result she is considered a Muslim under the nation's Islamic Shariah Law despite never practicing the faith, as she grew up with her Christian mother.

Italian politician Lapo Pistelli went on social media to express his happiness that Ibrahim and her family are now safe and sound in his native country.

"With Meriam, Maya, Martin and [Ibrahim's husband] Daniel, a few minutes from Rome. Mission accomplished," wrote Pistelli on his Facebook page with a photo of him, Ibrahim, and her two children Martin and Maya.

Mission accomplished indeed.
