Doctor Strange Release Date, Movie Cast: Marvel Shortlists Actors for Lead Role

Rumor has it that the upcoming 'Doctor Strange' film will not be an origin story, as Marvel Studio's President, Kevin Feige, enlightened fans a bit on their plan for the new Marvel movie.

He said that since the billionaire heroes and street-level heroes have already conquered the big screen, a new promising concept, that Marvel has created, will showcase the inter-dimensional side of the Marvel universe. Feige reiterated that he wants something new for the audience to see, a combination of the real world plus the supernatural world that will perfectly trigger the imagination of viewers of all ages.

'Prometheus' screen writer, Jon Spaihts, is the genius behind the Marvel's 'Doctor Strange' script. Spaihts' new draft has an established story which includes many 'surprising' turns of events compared to the comic book version. Recent rumors said that the story will begin with Stephen Strange already embodying Doctor Strange. Filming will begin next month while the movie is set for release on July 8, 2016.

However, the production team has been silent about who is going to play the role of the main character in the film.

Some of the top picks for the role include musician Jared Leto, Joaquin Phoenix, and the jack-of-all-trades actor Johnny Depp. Each one of them has distinct edge for the role, but Marvel seems to be having a hard time deciding on which one would be best for the role of Stephen Strange.

Even 'Harry Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe was rumored to get a spot for the film, but the actor seems too young for the lead, so many hope to see him in a different role on the big screen.
