Mars and Full Moon Phenomenon Hoax: Fake Astronomical Event Hits Social Media

A strange phenomenon is rumored to happen in the night sky less than a week from now. Social media is buzzing about an astronomical occurrence that will result in the Moon and the planet Mars appearing at the same time amongst the stars. However, while that sort of thing would be quite the spectacle, the rumors are only hoax, and the event is not going to happen.

Ever since 2003, this potential astrological phenomenon is revived around this time and promoted on the internet via simulated presentations or photos of how Mars will look like the full moon and how the Moon and Mars will create the effect of a double moon in the sky.

However, this is not possible, as the projected date for the Moon/Mars phenomenon, August 27, conflicts with astronomical events that are already confirmed to take place.

On August 27, the Moon will be a full Moon, which immediately debunks the wild rumors. Also, Mars will not be very bright, as it's not very close to the Earth this year.

Also, since Mars is much further from the Earth than the Moon is, it could not possibly appear in the same fashion in the night sky. In relation to how it looks in the sky in terms of size, Mars appears at 1/140th the size of the Moon.

Once again, the Mars/Moon hoax has emerged on social media, and once again it's debunked.
