Mark Wahlberg Set to Host 2014 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards
Mark Wahlberg is set to host the 2014 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
The "Lone Survivor" lead actor will head this year's twenty-seventh annual fan-voted awards show, which will take place at the University of Southern California's Galen Center. The children awards show will broadcast live on Saturday March 29, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. EST on television.
"We are thrilled to welcome a superstar like Mark Wahlberg as he takes the helm as our master of ceremonies at the biggest kid event of the year," said Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon's president of content development and production. "We can't wait for him to host and have lots of slime-filled fun with Hollywood's biggest stars and our audience."
Wahlberg is an Oscar and Golden Globe nominee for David O. Russell's "The Fighter" and Martin Scorsese's "The Departed."
In addition, Wahlberg will also star in the fourth film of the Transformers franchise, "Age of Extinction." Furthermore, he will appear in A&E's new reality series, Wahlburgers, which based on his family's burger business.
As a producer, Wahlberg made Lone Survivor, 2 Guns, and the future Entourage movie, as well as producing Boardwalk Empire and In Treatment.
In 2001, Wahlberg created the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, to help inner city children and teens.
Last year's Kids' Choice Awards attracted 5.8 million viewers on March 23 of 2013, and gathered a record 392 million votes in 22 categories. Past hosts have included Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Justin Timberlake, Will Smith, Cameron Diaz, Josh Duhamel, Jack Black, Rosie O'Donnell, Mike Myers, and Ben Stiller.
Wahlberg recently spoke about his faith in God and how it affects his family's life.
"Being a Catholic is the most important aspect of my life," said the 42 year old high acclaimed actor to Catholic Herald. "The first thing I do when I start my day is, I get down on my hands and knees and give thanks to God. Whenever I go outside of my house, the first thing I do is stop at the church. The kids will be mad with me. 'Daddy! It takes too long!' I'm saying: 'It's only 10 minutes and this is something I really need to do.' Because I do. If I can start my day out by saying my prayers and getting myself focused, then I know I'm doing the right thing. That 10 minutes helps me in every way throughout the day."
A&E reality series Wahlburgers airs Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. EST following an all new episode of Duck Dynasty.
