Mario Kart 8 Release Date Sales Make Game Fastest Selling in Wii U's Lifespan
Mario Kart 8 has become the fastest selling Wii U game since the console's release, selling 1.2 million from May 29 through June 1.
According to Polygon, the game is also getting some of the highest review scores for any Wii U game. "The early response to Mario Kart 8 demonstrates that the best days for Wii U are still ahead," Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America president and COO, said in a statement. "This year's E3 is just days away, and it will be all about the future games for Nintendo platforms."
According to GameSpot, Nintendo UK reported that the game helped Nintendo Wii U sales go up 666%.
Recently announced for the game is a free DLC that gives gamers the opportunity to drive a Mercedes-Benz GLA.
Called the Mercedes-Benz DLC, it is free according to Kotaku. This info was revealed through a Japanese advertisement that features a real life Mario driving the car through a video game themed course.
Mario Kart 8 is also offering bonus deals to gamers who purchase or register the game between May 31 and July 31, 2014.
Nintendo Australia stated in a press release "Whether Mario Kart 8 is purchased at retail or via Nintendo eShop, if you register an accompanying Club Nintendo PIN code of the game with Club Nintendo between 31st May 2014 (00:01 AEST) and 31st July 2014 (23:59 AEST), you will be eligible to claim a free download code for one of 10 selected Wii U games by 31st August 2014 (23:59 AEST)."
