New information about an upcoming 'Mario Kart 8' DLC has been leaked by someone who's looked into the game's code. A file name and image has emerged fueling rumors that 16 courses, or 4 separate cups will be eventually added to the game

Modern Distractions says that the allegedly leaked file was located within the code, and is named "ym_CupIconDLC_00_130x130^h.bflim". Evidently, the name itself sparks speculation about the rumored new DLC

An image was also taken from the game's code, via data mining, that shows the icon for the four supposedly new cups. While the cups have yet to be named, the icons are familiar to fans of the Mario Kart series, or any Mario game for that matter.

The image shows, a Yoshi Egg, Classic Star Sprite, Boo, and a Blue Shell on checkered cup icons. While the checkered background seems uncommon to 'Mario Kart 8' course icons, that pattern was actually the original choice for the in-game icons.

There is also speculation that these courses may not be the regular courses that fans have grown accustomed to in the game. Some say that battle courses are on their way, and this is just a hint as to what they'll be about thematically.

Beyond that, the newest confirmed DLC for Nintendo's 'Mario Kart 8' launches August 27. That specific date marks the 22-year anniversary of the original SNES 'Mario Kart'.
