Mario Kart 8 DLC Release Date: Free Mercedes-Benz Karts Arrive In US This Summer
Mario Kart 8, Nintendo's newest addition to the series, is confirmed to receive new DLC that allows Mario and friends to cruise around in style. Mercedes-Benz GLA DLC will feature the prestigious automotive company in the game by means of their new GLA-Class kart.
"We're planning to release a GLA-Class kart from @Mercedesbenz for #MK8 this summer. Stay tuned for more info!" says the company's post.
In addition to the Twitter update, a 30-second Mario themed advertisement for the GLA was released in Japan. It features a realistic and life-like Mario kicking up dust in a brand new Mercedes-Benz GLA Class car. The video provides a touch of humor at the end, Mario is seemingly "defeated" by a lowly Goomba.
Mario Kart 8 was released worldwide on May 30 2014, within the first four days, the game sold 1.2 million copies, making it the fastest selling Wii U game to date.
Since the game is available for online play, balance between the characters and karts is essential for success and longevity. "Game balance is a really important element of Mario Kart that we look very closely at and place a lot of value on," game producer Hideki Konno told Gamespot on April 3, "From the time we start working on development, thousands of times, maybe even tens of thousands of times, we adjust that balance when we're playing. At the end, we come up with what we hope and feel is a really good balance. It's our strong hope that folks would want to play with the items as we have balanced them."
