Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Fight is Most Wanted, But Next Fight Will Be Chris Algieri on November 22, 2014

The Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will meet Chris Algieri, the current WBO Light Welterweight Champion, former ISKA World Welterweight, and WKA World Super Welterweight Champion, in his next fight scheduled at the Venetian Resort in Macau, China, on Nov. 22.

The upcoming showdown is being considered as a major break for the young American professional boxer, who said he is optimistic about scoring a convincing victory against Pacquiao. In a recent interview with the BoxingScene, Algeiri said, "I think in terms of boxing, you know it's purely unexpected and anything can happen, and you got two guys and if you can hit someone and hurt them and if you can hurt them you can stop them."

Algieri, who has just come off a split decision win against Ruslan Provodnikov, only has eight knockout wins in his entire professional career. Nevertheless, the unbeaten American expressed hope of a knockout victory against Pacquiao.

Even if he doesn't score a knockout victory, Algieri said that he is prepared to go the additional distance and dominate Pacquiao for the entirety of the fight.

Talking about the Nov. 22 showdown, he said, "I don't go into this fight thinking that I have to win a decision or I have to outbox him or anything like that," adding, "If the knockout is there, the knockout is there. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn't, I'm looking to dominate either way."

Algieri is well aware of the fact that the world boxing scenario will change should he win against Pacquiao. If he is able to score an upset against the former pound-for-pound king, the 30-year-old American boxer said that he will look forward to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his next fight.

He said, "I mean of course, the landscape of the boxing world will change, if and when I beat Manny, so that's an option (to fight Mayweather). But as always, we'll take it step by step and see what the best moves are gonna be and decide what the next move will be. For right now, I am 100% focused on Nov. 22."

While Pacquiao was unavailable for comment, his trainer Freddie Roach told BoxingScene that the Huntington, New York native is just all talk. "He's a good talker. He talks a lot, but all of the talking in the world is not going to help him win the fight," Roach said.
