Manny Pacquiao Next Fight Update: Juan Manual Marquez Is Preferred, But May Face Danny Garcia or Ruslan Provodnikov

Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum has narrowed down the possible contestants who might challenge the professional Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao in his next fight scheduled for Nov. 22 in Macau.

On Wednesday, Arum disclosed that Juan Manuel Marquez remains their top preference as of now, the Filipino is keen to avenge his defeat by the Mexican boxer in the sixth-round knock-out in December 2012.

Arum was supposed to discuss the issue of the proposed fight with Marquez. In fact, he said he has arranged a meeting with the Mexican professional boxer to personally assess the Mexican's interest in participating in the proposed fight with Pacquiao. Talking about Marquez, Arum said, "We brought him here," adding, "I don't want to be racist or anything because it's not racist. But you can't really talk to a Mexican on a phone about a deal. You've got to sit him in front of you; you've got to look at his face."

Nevertheless, it is still not certain if Marquez is interested in fighting Pacquiao once more, as he has earlier said that his rivalry with the Filipino is over since he delivered the winning knock-out against him.

According to Arum, in case Marquez is not keen to face Pacquiao in a rematch, they would consider setting up a contest either between the Filipino and reigning WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov or between Pacquiao and Argentine welterweight Luis Carlos Abregu.

In addition, the Top Rank Promotions chief disclosed that they are also considering fighters from Golden Boy Promotions, counting the reigning WBA and WBC junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia.

He said, "There are plenty of names," adding, "Ruslan Provodnikov is on the list. Carlos Abregu, the Argentinian welterweight is on the list. Those are two of the principal names, and then we have to see how many Golden Boy fighters would be available for the fight, and that will become clear in the next week or so."
